That’s when I created pretty serious habits. Actions that are tangible and reproducible and don't take too much brainpower. 🎉 I knew I needed something different, and habits were just the thing to whip my butt into shape at the office.
So I figured it out. How to get it all done, in as little time as possible.
But little did I realize that these habits were going to take a back up plan, too. Ugh!

This week has been a whirlwind.
We started out heading to Denver to share a stage with Robert Kennedy Jr. at Mile High Chiropractic event.
It was phenomenal.
HOWEVER, there is something so overwhelming about meeting a group of strangers who, because of what they've seen of me on Social Media, feel like they know me.
Part of me just wants to scream really loud in the middle of the room with hundreds of chiropractors - you just know one part of me. There are so many parts of me to get to know. I am vulnerable and overwhelming and completely obsessed with greatness and so insecure that it sets me spinning but also super powerful and filled with love.
I can't really say that to people that I've just met. Nor can I scream it.
So most often I just decide to let them think what they think about what they've seen and form an opinion based on a one dimension experience.
Here's what happens when we meet in person...and we know each other from the screens - we get this recognition without depth - it displaces us and it creates confusion in a conversation that could be a brand new one. Maybe even a life changing one.
Take the time to connect deeply with people on every level possible.
Outside of Social Media.
Perhaps pick up the phone and have a conversation or go for a visit - we are all craving human connection, we're craving touch and dance and truthful experiences with people who we have things in common even with.
This week, I did a share on self care in practice.
I did this share with the intention of connecting with as many people as possible to push them just a little bit on better caring for their physical and emotional bodies. Because I know that if we better care for ourselves we're better caring for others.
A lot happened this week in the world of Staffless Practice Academy.
Overnight, we learned that our main partner for our texting program was not only doubling their price but also requiring full payment from all our clients for their next renewal. This is a big deal in our world, as our texting solutions really make or break the Staffless Practice experience. 😵💫
Years ago, I would have flipped out.
I would have hidden under my covers.
I would have devoured ten bags of jelly beans.
I would have maybe even smoked a few cigarettes.
I would have done less than honorable things to handle the overwhelming stress of the moment.
The cool thing is, I've learned and come a long way over the past few years. 💪🏼

It's Wednesday morning, and that means today is my day – a day for myself, where nobody can pull at me unless I give them permission to do so.
Part of what we focus on in our StaffLESS Practice Community group is providing streamlined and compliant services to our clients and practice members. As I go on my shopping journey at Target this morning, I know that everyone is receiving the necessary words and images as efficiently and compliantly as possible.
It's really important that we spend time beforehand to avoid a state of chaos. We need to plan how we'll deliver information to John, Sally, and Bob, to make sure they understand the 'who, what, where, when, and why' of our practice, all while staying within the boundaries and statutes required.
Investing time in advance to prioritize compliance and privacy is so worthwhile. Master the rules of your trade. If you do this now and protect your time and energy, you'll be able to enjoy your days outside of work without the worry of what could or should be just right for the practice.
HERE is a live session I did in our Facebook group, I talk about how to utilize AI for creating compliant communication, and how it all blends together.
People always ask me how I manage to get everything done on my list. My to-do list is often quite long, and I find myself scratching my head at the things I say yes to.
However, I’ve learned that I can accomplish almost anything as long as I establish clear boundaries around my self-care. 💥
Self-care in my world requires boundaries. Self-care means dedicating a short period of time each day to taking care of myself instead of focusing on everybody else.
Each day, I move my body.
Each day, I challenge my mind.
Each day, I connect with a loved one.
Each day, I prioritize rest.
If I let one of these things go, everything else comes crumbling down, and believe me, I do let them go. There are days, sometimes weeks, when I become disconnected from my need for self-care.
I can feel it infiltrate my every decision, every movement, every interaction.
I feel less clear.
I feel less balanced.
I would say that among all of the things I do regularly to take care of myself, having a chiropractor whom I trust and see regularly is my top priority. Every time I get adjusted when I see my chiropractor, I feel a sense of renewal. I feel a surge of energy that propels me forward.
From this point forward, I will do better. ✔️
From this point forward, I will move better. 🏃🏼♀️
From this point forward, I will live better. 🙌🏼
That’s what getting adjusted does for me, and I’ve benefited from it for over 30 years. I’m so grateful for the constant reminders (people, places, and things) that keep me moving forward with my self-care plan.
So, many people scratch their heads in curiosity and ask me where to start. My suggestion is always to begin by finding a chiropractor who you trust. Then, make sure you have a movement plan, and a plan for nurturing and nourishing your body on a daily basis.
Every meal, every bite, every moment of rest, every stretch, every sweat - each of them matters. Each one moves you forward in your journey.

Boy, oh boy, do I get it. Life takes over - the kids, the plans, the gym, the homework, the dry cleaner - all of it. 😵💫
I forget about this appointment, and that appointment. ☹️
I forget to go see my chiropractor. 😖
I forget to put my massage therapist in my date book and on my schedule.
I forget my self care, the action steps, and the things that keep me going round and round. 😩
That’s why having a great recall program is the best thing my chiropractor and massage therapist could do for me. It keeps me on track because, let’s face it, I often fall off that track. No matter how tight the rails are, no matter how much I benefit from the experience, I still fall off. 🙈
I've never been one of those patients who likes to schedule a year in advance. I just can't do it. I need spontaneity in my life, especially when it comes to my health care.
So, when I get that call or text saying, “Hey, it's me, your chiropractor. I'm thinking of you, and it's time to get on the table.”, I jump and I take action. It just works for me. ✨
If there’s one thing I know to be true, it’s this: if it works for me, it will probably work for my practice members too. 💡
So, I took my own piece of advice and created what has now become quite a kick ass recall program. In fact, this recall program has been the key component in keeping my practice healthy. I don't do any marketing at all - none. I haven’t done any for quite some time now. All of my new patients come from referrals. 💥
Really, the only thing I do these days to keep my practice moving forward is:
Show up ✔️
Provide great care ✔️
Check in with my patients when they've fallen off ✔️
Having a great recall program, for me, means the difference between having a light schedule and having a schedule where I'm cranking. It’s when I feel really good about the status of my practice. So, not only does it serve the busy moms and dads I care for, but it also does wonders for my practice itself. 🙌🏻
Everybody has to figure out the nuances of a recall program that works for their practice. Inside Staffless Practice Academy, we lean heavily on effective texting systems. There's a fine line here between automating what shouldn't be automated, and sending a genuine text from your heart to their heart through the phone channel.

I think of all of the things that have come up when it comes to running a practice without staff - finding the right programs has been the biggest energy sucker.
The problem is …once you get into the program you find, like a new car, or a shiny toy, you start to learn how it works well or doesn't work well. You learn all of its nuances and hiccups, and you may just find that you've just wasted another 20 hours diving into a program that is not going to get you what you want.
I found that there are a few key programs that make my life easier and streamlined as possible. Sometimes they work together - other times they don't.
When we’re planning to run a practice without staff (or with staff who only does what they're great at doing), it's essential that we have the right tools.
These days, efficiency is everything.
These days, the whole world is running online.
These days, having the right programs to organize, streamline, and automate as much as possible is essential and imperative. (Check out the Facebook Group if you want to know more!)
It's kind of like essential workers, right?
These programs are our essential workers. If we don't have a team, our programs are our essential workers.
I talk a lot about the four options when a task is put in front of you:
The goal is always to protect your time, money, and energy (most important).
If you don't have the right programs in place, you're out of luck. I'm always happy to learn about new programs. So, please be sure to share with me and the community if there are any programs we won’t want to go another moment without.

It's no secret that things can get pretty overwhelming when you're running a front desk and meeting with clients without staff present. There's definitely a sweet spot to finding balance in all of it.
I use telehealth sessions as an initial HEY with a lot of my new clients. I get to connect with them and make sure that my office is a fit, quickly and privately - with all of the right admin pieces in front of me.
Back to the sweet spot: for me, a lot of times, it just means having the right list in front of me to lean on. I get so overwhelmed in the moment because I care so much about my clients. I get so into their story and how I can help them, and I have these moments where excitement and overwhelm take over, and I forget what I'm supposed to be doing administratively.
If I don't want that to happen, and I want to prepare myself for success with every meeting, I have to have a good list in front of me. In my world, the checklist is the anchor to making sure that all of my I's are dotted and T's crossed.
When it comes to a checklist for a new client, especially a new client who's meeting me in a telehealth call, there are so many variables that I have to keep in mind.
Telehealths can be tricky - as there is no physical connection with the client. I'm literally trying to connect with them, looking at them through a screen. So, it's one more barrier to have to work through when connecting with my new clients.
If I have a checklist reminding me of all of the things that I need to get done during that meeting, I'm good. If I have a checklist saying, Jodi, don't forget to tell them about our late policy, or payment, or what to do if their child is sick, or if they're wanting to bring in another family member, all of those things need attention because each one of them is a whole world of detail that needs to be addressed.
The checklist is my go-to place for sanity in the excitement of the moments in practice. My practice is very exciting, and I never know when that excitement is going to hit me. I want to be prepared so that I can get hit left and right with excitement because that's truly where I find joy in practice.
As long as I'm standing on the foundation of organization, I'm good to go!

Take some time to plan out how you want to spend the next quarter growing your practice.
Answer the following questions:
Who do you want to grow it for?
How do you want to grow it?
Do you want to do things inside the office, more outside of the office, or a combination of both?
Do you want to offer celebrations, or would you rather focus on the habits of the practice?

I invite you to grab your favorite set of markers, some construction paper, or a great whiteboard and go to town with a plan of action for your perfect practice member.
Figure out how to place JOY right in the center of all that you're doing for practice growth.

Okay my friends, let's talk about boundaries.
Boundaries are 100% the ticket to keeping everything in check if you're running a practice without staff. Even more so if you decide to hire a team when you're ready.
Take a sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle, from top to bottom. On the left side, write out the following words in a list:
You now have in front of you a worksheet that can take you so far. The idea is that with everything we do, and every choice we make for our practice and for our lives, we’re:
Respecting our time, energy, and money.
Protecting our time, energy and money.
Supporting our time, energy and money.
Time may be the time that we spend in the office, outside of the office, with patients, planning for patients, scheduling demands, personal family demands, rest time, play time, workout time, etc.
Energy may be the food that we consume, the attention that we give, the attention that we take, the movements that we choose. It is however energy hits us, or how energy is dispersed in our experience.
Money may be the intake of finances, the outpouring of finances, the donations, the payments, the mortgage, the rent, the expenses, the savings, the fun spending, the cash, etc.
On the right side of your worksheet, we can talk about how to respect all of these energy resources.
First, let's talk about policies. It's so important to have policies around time, energy, and money.
What are you okay within your office?
What is your bottom line?
How do you know when your policies are being disrespected?
What do you do when your policies are being disrespected?
How do you course correct?
Boundaries, in my opinion and in my experience, are an internal process. There's a feeling that happens when a boundary is crossed. Usually my face turns red. I feel like I'm having a hot flash and maybe my stomach does a flip or two.
What are the boundaries you need to consider to protect your time, energy, and money? Are these boundaries currently respected?
What needs to change?
Appreciations are the way that we say thank you to the people in our community, on our team, and in our personal life.
How do you say thank you when somebody does a great job?
How do you say thank you when you notice the boundaries being respected?
How do you say thank you when you experience somebody that went out of their way to course correct and respect one of your policies?
Consequences are the antithesis of appreciation.
Which action do you choose?
What is the next step that needs to be implemented when one of your boundaries or policies is disrespected?
Spend some time letting all of these concepts marinate. Spend some time creating your vision for your time, energy, and money. What goes in and what comes out. Then walk through the exercise of creating boundaries, policies, appreciations and consequences for each. You will be amazed at how far this exercise can take you!
